Used my “we’re sorry” money from VW to buy me some new winter tires on OEM steelies. Ended up costing $100 less than I was expecting, which means bonus Christmas money. Blizzak WS80 205/55r16 on new OEM 16 inch steel wheels installed for $760. I’m pretty happy with that.

Photos please when installed. I love the look of VW on steelies. I had to use my full-size spare for a few weeks last year and I almost didn’t want to take it off because I liked the way it looked.

it will be black on black on black on black. Should look pretty cool.

+1 for black on black on black

I hate it when black on black on black turns into black on slightly grey on black because the tire shine wears off.

So you had to get the 16’s for the front rotors? Or just because? I didn’t follow up on your original post.

Blizzaks are the world's best marshmallows.

yeah, because the sportwagens (or just the tdi’s I can’t recall) all have the larger 312 mm rotors.

Pics or it didn’t happen.
(I just like the look of what I assume will be black steel wheels)

I’m excited to see it as well, my wife is at the dealer now having them put on.

Would be interested on how you find them, our Xi2 on the Forester are almost ready for replacement, and the Blizzak dm-v1 on the Tacoma are pretty awesome.

we had the ws60 before and aside from fast wear I quite liked them. I hear the 80’s are much better than the 60s

It’s always nice to have bonus money come out of something like that. Good call on the WS80’s. We are on winter number 3 with those tires on my wife’s Escape and they are excellent snow tires.

If only I could actually get some snow, or even cold weather. Had quite a few ~30 degree days so I put on the snow tires. Now there have been days over 70! IN DECEMBER!!!! Sure I don’t live in the arctic but NJ still gets pretty cold usually. I am worried my tires are going to excessively wear if this weather keeps up.

I live in Michigan and purchased winter tires last year. I had them put on about two weeks ago, expecting decent snow by this point. But, we’ve been having unseasonably warm weather, with some days hitting the 60s. I know winter tires are a softer compound, but should I be concerned about driving at highway speeds on winter tires during those warmer days?

You’ll wear them out faster, I think thats why did my last set in last year when it was so warm and dry.
![]() 12/17/2015 at 14:32 |

I figured they’d wear fast, but I was more concerned about losing tread/delaminating at speed.

nah, they aren’t going anywhere, I drove them down south to warmer climes last winter at 80mph for 4 hours at a time and it was no biggie.

Lucky! Ive got a season pass to a ski mountain so this weather is costing me in value.

yeah, I need to ski...its killing me to be so close and yet so far away.

I just find it so relaxing (even though I always am the most tired I have ever been in my life) to go skiing. Just flying down a mountain and jamming to some tunes is bliss to me.

I went into my yard last night, let the pow run through my fingers and said out loud...”I need this back in my life.” Hopefully this saturday.

I put my snows on Thanksgiving weekend, and yes the lack of cold weather in our area is quite astounding. I’m in a bit of a different boat though, as this is my last winter as I’m at the end of my date code on the tires, so wearing them out seems okay in my book.
